Well, today provided ample evidence of just why we call this winter testing.
Thanks to the so-called 'Beast from the East', the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was this morning covered in a thick blanket of snow, causing many of us to call for a swift return under the thick blankets of our hotel beds.
Fuelled by hot beverages and a sturdy breakfast we stuck it out and though there was no running in the morning, a fire-up looked distinctly possible later on as the temperatures perked up a bit. We say a bit, because in the end it was only by enough to turn snow showers to heavy rain.
Daniel went out for an installation lap, which in the treacherous conditions resulted in a first-gear trundle across the gravel. And that was pretty much it. With just less than two hours remaining and with no sign of conditions improving the team decided to call it a day. We'll have another crack tomorrow, but for this evening it's back to base for a hot meal and an early night.
Christian commented on the tricky conditions, "It's been a frustrating day. The conditions this morning were only conducive for throwing snowballs, and the cold and wet this afternoon put paid to any meaningful time on the circuit. With warmer and drier conditions forecast for tomorrow we will certainly try and make the most of it."
