After a slow start cost Sebastian Vettel the lead at the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim last Sunday, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the young Red Bull Racing star had spent the week worrying about his starts. But according to his blog, the German is trying to focus on adding to his points haul in Hungary this weekend.
'I admit that after the last weekend it would be reasonable to think that I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about starts. Well, I haven't.
We discovered the fault that cost us at the start of the German Grand Prix and two places and now the focus is on making sure it doesn’t happen again.
There are so many small details that you need to take into account when it comes to the start of a race.
'You get a bit frustrated when things like that happen but luckily we wear helmets so you can’t see our reaction’
You need to concentrate on how the clutch reacts and how the car drives in those first few metres. You also have to rely heavily on the electronics, and that’s where had problems at Hockenheim.
Of course you get a bit frustrated when things like that happen but luckily we wear helmets so you can’t see our reaction!
All you can do in those situations is try to minimize the problem. Before you climb into the car, you can spend a lot of time going through all the things that can go wrong, but when a problem occurs, it’s usually something you couldn’t have predicted.
The golden rule is to never lose your focus.
It's also important not to pay too much attention to what’s happening around you. We drivers just really try to focus on ourselves and trying to get the most points to ensure we'll be on top of both championships by the end of the season.
I have a really good feeling about this week's race in Hungary and I’m not worried about the Ferraris, despite their good showing in Germany.
Our car has proved its speed and reliability time and again and I am sure that it will be great on the Hungaroring as well.
Speak to you tomorrow.'
