Javier Rossell: "Vancouver is my new favourite city!"

DJ Javier Thre3style 900 x 600.jpg
Javier's musical career began a decade ago when he worked as a technical support agent at outdoor events all over his home country. After two years of running a tight ship backstage, he decided he wanted a slice of the glory, and reinvented himself as a DJ.

His approach to party starting is methodical and accurate. The way he blends subtle elements of trance music with the icy cold precision of minimal tech makes him one of the contest's most creative competitors, and his set at Bar None on Tuesday night had the dancefloor heaving!

He lost out on a place in Saturday's grand final to fellow South American Nedu Lopes from Brazil. But he's still smiling, and here he tells us why...

How are you finding Vancouver?

Unbelievable. Vancouver is a wonderful city, though in winter the warmth of the people is fantastic, it makes you feel that you are at home. People are very kind, are very respectful and patient. It has the most beautiful landscapes that had never seen before, is a city of heart attack. It is great to be in the city centre and in 10 minutes to be outside where you can enjoy other things. In fact, Vancouver is now my new favorite city.

Is it your first trip to Canada? How do the clubs compare to ones back home?

It is my first trip to Canada. In Vancouver the clubs are very good, impeclabe sound system, large LED displays and impressive lights, things that in my city are very difficult to find because it is a very small city.

How was the Canadian audience? What was the most memorable thing about the crowd? The Canadian crowd was very respectful with the presentation of the Djs, is a friendly crowd and easy to carry. It responds very well with songs and Dj skills. The most amazing thing about these people was the impartiality, the crowd always encouraging the Dj, no matter which nationality he was. It’s an amazing crowd.

Bad luck for missing out on your space n the grand final. What DJ's set on the night impressed you the most?

Nedu Lopez from Brazil.

What track did the crowd react to best?

Very hard to answer that there were many who made people dance.

What's the atmosphere like in the hotel with the other competitors?

Amazing. We share a very nice place, every day we meet in a special space where we can share our experiences, is a very relaxed space where we did very good friends, we have an area of games and of course equipments to play and practice any time.

How did you find your 15 minutes on stage?

It was a fun time. The thing I had in mind was to have a good time and give the best of my part to give a great moment to the crowd in the club. They were 15 minutes of madness.

What have you learnt from yourThre3style experience?

That it was great!

To what extent did your set represent the sound of Bolivia right now?

In Bolivia exsisted two great currents of electronic music at the national level, on one hand the urban music and on the other hand the music that is played in the Clubs. My Experimental Live Dj Set is a reflection of these two trends of music.

We thought it was great! Thanks Javier, enjoy the rest of your trip!
