Last year Nedu Lopes was runner up to France's DJ Karve at the World Thre3style finals in Paris. This year, he's fought his way to the finals, battling Brazil's best to secure his place on the Vancouver stage.
He was the first DJ to secure his place in the Grand Final this Saturday when he turned the dancefloor at Bar None in to a sweaty mess of limbs. Here we find out how he's found the competition so far and what he has most enjoyed about his visit to Canada.
Are you enjoying your visit to Vancouver?
Yes, a lot! It is awesome this experience to be together with DJs from all over the world. We have been on an intensive agenda every day, with great support and having a lot of fun!
What's been the most memorable thing that has happened on your trip so far?
It is hard to mention just only one thing. For sure, it is as kind of trip to keep a sort of memories for your whole life. But, for me, the most unforgettable thing until now it was when I won the qualifier last Tuesday.
How long did you prepare your set for Tuesday's event?
I think I took around two months to prepare this set, considering the set list featuring, tracks edition and rehearsals. But it is hard to be precise as there were lots of days I could not work on this set because of my intensive agenda.
What track did the crowd react to best?
I am not sure but I believe it was the drum n bass I played at the end of my set, Sub Focus - Timewarp.
Were you nervous about going first?
Nope. Actually, I liked it. The sooner, the better.
Who else in the competition has impressed you so far?
By now, I had only the chance to check the DJs from my group and the guys who Djing on Wednesday. Sincerely, I enjoyed all of them. But, the ones who most impressed me were DJs Perplex, BitCode and Hedspin.
What do you have planned for Saturday night?Humm.....as they say in hip hop, "just my thing".
Good luck for the World Final, Nedu!
