Explore the musical tastes of esteemed producer/remixer Ashley Beedle in a selection of Headphone Highlights on Red Bull Music Academy Radio.

Ashley Beedle is an allrounder spanning many genres of music, primarily disco and groove oriented soul. His style is as diverse as his hometown’s cultural crucible (London) and his productions have been championed by artists ranging from Danny Tenaglia to Fabio and Grooverider - from Gilles Peterson to John Digweed.

Ashley was born in Hemel Hempstead to an English mother and a Barbadian father who is himself an avid record collector, covering all musical fields from Bach to Bob Dylan bootlegs. Thus raised on homegrown love of Soul and Gospel Ashley entered the 80s as a teenager and earned his spurs spinning acid house and deep disco and later became well known as part (or all) of the Black Science Orchestra, The Ballistic Brothers, The Black Jazz Chronicles and Xpress2. His career in dance music has taken in some of the UK’s best loved ‘moments’ and yielded some of it’s most iconic records on his own labels Afroart, Illsun and Out Here Audio.

He also collaborated with Jamaican dulcet crooner Horace Andy and remixed the Rolling Stones on their 2005 single Rain Fall Down.

On November 4, 2008, the day Barack Obama was elected president, Ashley shared some of his favourite and best-loved tunes past and present with Red Bull Music Academy Radio. As well as dropping a couple of tunes from his own labels and a track from the recently reissued BSO classic ‘Walter’s Room’ on Junior Boys Own, he made sure he threw in a topical and highly amusing Japanese cover-version of Black President to mark the day.
