Austria is known for its amazing and very tasty food. The national dish is apple strudel. The world’s best chefs argue over how best to make this tasty treat, but the general consensus is to make your own filo pastry and not use the readymade stuff, but plenty of Austrians don’t use their own, so it’s not really cheating. It goes great with fresh cream or ice cream and you’ll want a nice, strong coffee to accompany it.

Another popular – and world renowned – Austrian dish is the wiener schnitzel. It’s ties to the country are so strong that it is protected by law! A weiner schnitzel is veal that is pounded, covered in breadcrumbs and fried. Not too healthy, but it’s good!

If you want to make a truly Styrian dish, then try Verhackert. Verhackert is a spread made from finely chopped speck combined with salt, minced garlic, and pumpkin seed oil and served on thick slices of fresh bread.

Austria has plenty of breweries and vineyards so the selection of beer and wine is almost endless. They also have a long history of producing tasty schnapps. And if you want to spray the bubbles after the chequered flag, there’s Schlumberger’s sparkling wine which goes down well in any celebration.

If you’re looking for something softer then a Red Bull Mocktail should be perfect for you. With Max claiming four wins and seven podiums at the Red Bull Ring, we think that ‘The Breeze’ would be the best choice. To make The Breeze, you will need: 10ml blue curacao syrup, juice of half an orange, ice, one can of Red Bull Energy Drink and orange wedges for garnish.
