Frede Flies Round Valencia In Formula E CarRed Bull Racing Esports driver gets behind the wheel of a Gen2 Formula E car.
Red Bull Racing Esports Driver Frede Rasmussen was thrilled to be given the chance to drive a Gen2 Formula E car round the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia today as part of his prize for
Frede, who has never driven round a track in real life before, was first taken around the track in the safety car and then put into the Formula E car to follow the safety car for several laps around the Spanish circuit. As soon as he got out the car Frede was clearly ecstatic to have been round the track. “That was amazing, I had fun. I would’ve like to have gone faster, but I couldn’t due to the safety car – that’s probably a good thing though, maybe next time!” Frede said.
Esports has brought racing to thousands, with life-like graphics and equipment that means it’s close to the real thing, but the one thing it hasn’t been able to do is produce is the forces felt on the track, and that was what Frede really enjoyed about driving the Formula E car. “The acceleration surprised me at first, but it felt really nice. I loved the feeling of being pushed back into the seat. That’s what you don’t get on the simulator, it was a new experience for me.”
Frede has been practicing at home in his simulator, learning the car and the Valencia track, but he was caught out at one point. “It was fun to drive a real car, it actually felt very similar to the sim and I felt at home almost straight away,” Frede said, showing how confident he was by adding: “Although I was sliding out of corners at the end of the first lap, one thing I did notice was that the track is slightly different to the one I was using at home in the sim, so it caught me out.”
So, after an incredible experience does Frede want to change the sim for the circuit? No, probably not, but he definitely wants to have another go! “I would love to find the limit of the car and I’d love to do it all again, thank you to everyone for making this possible. Today has been unforgettable.”
