Welcome to the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix where we’re at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for Sergio Pérez’s home race – and it’s going to be a fiesta!
It’s always an epic affair when Checo comes to town and the crowds are all there to see him. The Oracle Red Bull Racing fans will be going crazy as it has often been a happy hunting ground for the Bulls in recent years.
The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez creates a unique set of challenges for the cars and the drivers. At 2,229m above sea level, oxygen is at a premium. Expect to see huge intakes on the cars so the engines can suck in as much air as possible to ensure maximum power. The lack of air also makes it even more taxing on the drivers, as they battle each other over 71 laps.
The 17-turn track (nine right-handed, eight left) has a track length of 4.304km with a 1,200m flat out straight. The drivers are expected to make 52 gear changes in the lap and be at full throttle for 45%. Valtteri Bottas holds the lap record, which he set in 2021 in his Mercedes with a time of 1:17.774.
Max has won five of the last six Mexican Grands Prix, whilst Checo has claimed two P3s since becoming a Bull. Those two podiums have made him the most successful Mexican driver at their home race. Max will be looking to keep that run of form going and see if he can win four races in a row in Mexico. And Checo will be looking to forget last year’s race where he crashed on the opening lap and had to retire.
The Bulls will be hitting the track in Mexico for the first time on Friday at 12:30 local time (11:30 UTC). Make sure you keep checking back here all weekend for the latest news, pictures and videos coming from the track!
