Sitting in P2 at the start, Checo needed to make sure he got off the line quickly, which he did, his reaction time of 0.29s was enough to get out the blocks faster than Charles Leclerc, who was on pole, and as they reached the end of the short run to turn one, the Red Bull driver was alongside and on the inside line. Leclerc was forced to go deep, looking to hold his advantage, but locked up and Checo was able to steal the lead.

Checo was leading for the first 15 laps, but in that time had blown through his tyres and was starting to lose pace. When Charles Leclerc pitted, it moved Max into P2 and he was soon on the tail of his teammate, Checo.
Going into turn one of lap 16, Max was able to fire in front of Chaco, and when the Mexican’s Race Engineer, Hugh Bird, said: “No fighting,” over the radio, Checo let Max take the lead.

With only eight rounds completed Oracle Red Bull Racing have collected three one-two finishes this season. The most the Team has collected is four in one season, so that looks like another record that’s going to be smashed.
The one-two finish in Baku was a domination by Max and Checo. Max took the chequered flag with his teammate 20-seconds behind and we had to wait another 25 seconds for George Russell to take the final place of the podium.

Jackpot–MaximumPointsCollected
With the race settling into a rhythm and the Bulls pulling away from their rivals it made sense to ensure the Team picked up maximum points from the weekend. Max already had the fastest lap of the race, but on lap 36, Checo went for it. The Mexican was able to shave 0.004s off Max’s time and claim the fastest lap, giving himself the extra point. Also, by finishing second, Checo sits in P2 on the Drivers’ Championship, behind Max.

We know it’s still early in the season, but after the runaway success at Baku the Bulls are top of both standings. In the Drivers’ Championship Max continues to pull away at the top on 150 points. But the result has seen Checo leapfrog Charles into second on 129 points, 13 points ahead of the Ferrari driver. In the Constructors’ Championship, the Team now has 279 points, 80 ahead of Ferrari, with Mercedes third on 161 points.
